Newsletter 17th January 2020

Now that the new term is fully underway, please can I remind parents that school starts at 8.40am? We have had a number of children drifting in later and later – some even arriving 10 minutes late or more. As there are always staff supervising children from 8.30am please can you make sure that you child is in school promptly ready to start the day on time? Thank you.

We had a lovely act of collective worship led by Rev Alastair on Monday where he told us the story of Jesus being baptised as a baby. He (as always) had lots of visual aids to help us remember the story and it was great to have him in school with us. Thank you Alastair!
Look out for the Curriculum letters that we’re sending home tonight. We hope that these give you an insight into some of the learning that the children will be doing. As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
We have had a fantastic response to the Reading Challenge that we set over Christmas – so many children have shared books with adults, or completed book reviews of had their pictures taken whilst they were reading. This is all great and shows that we are fostering a love of reading within school. Thank you for your support, and thank you for continually hearing your child read daily – it is making a big difference in class! Many congratulations go to Barnaby and Georgie in Class 1, Violet and Megan in Class 2 and Simeon and Freya in Class 3 who all won our lucky draw and are now taking home a £5 national Book Token to get themselves some more books to get stuck into!
Here is a report from Isla and Logan on Friday’s amazing choir trip to the Young Voices concert – “When we went to Young Voices we saw Andy, the Shires, Urban Strides – street dancers and Tony Hadley. Andy was the person who taught us the actions and moves to all the incredible dances. The Urban Stride dancers were amazing at dancing and really good at slow motion. The Shires had amazing voices and they encouraged the grownups to dance with all of the children. Tony Hadley sang some songs and in one of them he went into the audience and everyone wanted to clap his hand. After the young voices had finished it was busy and we eventually got onto the bus and everyone was so tired that they went to sleep. Mrs. Dobbs was thrilled to be singing with Tony Hadley. We really enjoyed it and really want to go back next year!”
Thank you for all of the positive comments we are receiving about the new website. In order to make the newsletter easier to read on a mobile phone you can click on the blog section https://www.dacrebraithwaite.n-yorks.sch.uk/newsletterblog for a more screen friendly style. I am still looking for some testimonies for the front page, and who better to ask than our parents? Please could you email me any comments that you would be happy to have anonymously on the website? (headteacher@dacrebraithwaite.n-yorks.sch.uk) Thank you!
This week’s ‘thought for the week’ from our Creativity theme is, “To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.” I wonder what you think? Is it easy to lose the fear of being wrong??
This week’s SilVerstiX winner was Keira – who showed excellent blocking skills throughout the session.
Also in the frame was Victoria (for excellent gameplay throughout) and George (for great blocking in the game) Well done!
